The Peace Corps is Coming Back to Colombia

Published in on May 19, 2010

On May 11, Colombian Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez and Peace Corps Director Aaron Williams signed an agreement for the Peace Corps to return to Colombia. I was a volunteer there in the sixties and worked with both governments to help bring the Peace Corps back. The signing yesterday at he Colombian embassy was a longtime wish fulfilled. The Peace Corps left Colombia in 1981 due to escalating violence from various guerrilla factions but now that security inside the country has improved so much, the Peace Corps is back! My dream is for some day to have Peace Corps volunteers working at my schools there.
