We Won the Biggie!

On Wednesday, November 17, the rural school, Campo Alegre, in the town of El Carmen de Viboral won the highest honor given by the Secretary of Education from the state of Antioquia in Colombia: Antioquia la mas educada.

The school was honored for its programs in computer technology, bilingualism, and leadership, especially for the participation of the parents and the community in the life of the shttp://www.fundaorth.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/premio.jpgchool. Schools are invited to compete in a number of categories. Campo Alegre school and the Marina Orth Foundation chose to compete for the highest prize of overall excellence and the largest cash reward.

Each year the televised awards before a live audience of over 1,000 are given to the most outstanding teachers and schools in both the capital city of Medellin and the state of Antioquia, the largest in Colombia (population 7 million). Education and the program "la mas educada" is a cornerstone of the administration of Governor Sergio Farjardo who presented the school with the award.

The next day parents and children greeted the principal and teachers with banners, bouquets, hugs and tears of joy. The Foundation has worked with the school since 2009 and the progress the children have made in everything from English to Robotics is truly remarkable.

Congratulations to the wonderful teachers, students and to the community who so deserve this honor.
